Short Bio

Ashwin Ramesh is a Postdoctoral Researcher in Viral Immunology at the Department of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology. As part of Dr. Henry Wan’s lab, Ashwin’s research focuses on: 1) The development, and evaluation of novel vaccines for different Influenza A virus strains and other emerging viral pathogens such as SARS-CoV-2. 2) Studying the impact of repeated vaccination on immunological memory in humans and other animal models. Ashwin graduated with his PhD in Biomedical and Veterinary Sciences from Virginia Tech in 2019, where he evaluated the immunogenicity and protective efficacy of intramuscular vaccines against enteric viruses (rotavirus and norovirus) using a gnotobiotic pig model of infection and disease. His research interest lies in the understanding the adaptive immune responses of the host when infected with viral pathogens and the factors responsible for the generation of long-lasting immunological memory.
